BEN Price's talent for mimicry, combined with a mischievous wit, has proved popular.
The former Maranatha Christian School student has reached the finals of Australia's Got Talent uncannily taking off well-known characters such as Homer Simpson, Borat, Arnie, Dr Phil and Shrek.
The Rowville resident's craft started with sending up comedic character Frank Spencer when he was 10.
Then he moved onto impersonating his teachers at the Endeavour Hills school, such as his then-English teacher, now principal Vernon Clark.
On a visit to his former school last week, he entertained and signed autographs for excited students.
He told them how he would have liked to impersonate Mr Clark on the phone to friends and tell them they were expelled. He later told the Weekly it was only an idea, never carried out in practice.
Often at school functions, he was requested to perform his routine of teacher send-ups but they were always in good spirit.
"He took the mickey out of us but in a nice way," Mr Clark said. Or as Price put it, he never intended to especially upset anybody, he wanted to offend everybody equally.
Since then he's carved a career out of comedy and voice work, adding his clean comic routine to radio duo Grubby and Dee Dee on Gold FM.
"I want to keep my comedy clean," Price said. "Parents like it that they can bring their kids and watch the show."
He said his favourite send-up was John Cleese although "I think every comedian wore a black armband" when former US president George W Bush left office. Initially reluctant to enter Australia's Got Talent, Price is planning his finals assault around crisis-stricken Arnold Schwarzenegger.
He plans a sketch where Arnie is helped out with well-meaning advice from friends such as Dr Phil and Tom Cruise. The final will be screened this month.
