A BLOCK of homes in Ferntree Gully for people and families who are homeless or near-homeless is nearing completion.
Community Housing Limited will finish construction on the social housing development on the former Ferntree Gully Primary School site within three weeks.
The development, on the corner of Dorset Road and Burwood Highway, will comprise 30 one-bedroom apartments, 43 two-bedroom apartments and six three-bedroom apartments.
Community Housing Limited, a non-profit organisation, will also manage the units on behalf of the state government.
CHL state manager Brett Wake said one-third of the units would be reserved for Knox workers on low incomes who could not otherwise afford to live in the city, with the rest being occupied by elderly or disabled people - "preferably we'd like to see people who have links with the area already".
