PERSONAL training is not just for young and toned fitness fanatics - it can also be for seniors.
At 95, Ern Welsh could be excused for slowing down. However, the Knox resident is making the most of his twilight years. He attends a weekly personal training session, lifting weights and keeping his muscles toned on a rowing machine.
Mr Welsh was a rower in his younger years, in the 1930s. He has been doing personal training for about eight years and said he was going as strongly as ever.
"There's a lot of machines there where you have to use your arms and legs. I like them all."
But Mr Welsh's fitness regime is more than personal training.
Away from the gym, chances are you will find Mr Welsh on the golf course. "I still play golf at Malvern Valley. I play nine holes with a group of about 20 on a Tuesday morning."
Mr Welsh said he was the oldest member of his golfing group. "You need to think young. I still have a lot of fun."
Trainer Gary Campbell from Prestige Personal Training said Mr Welsh provided fantastic motivation for other clients.
"He'd be our oldest member, although there are a couple of others in their 80s. Age isn't a barrier."
