Good time to share

01 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
SUPPORT groups in Knox are set to join forces as they look to offer a helping hand this Christmas.

Although the festive season is months away, the call is already going out to the Knox community to support those in need.

Knox Infolink spokeswoman Zillah said a range of agencies provided assistance during the holiday season, but this year would be the first time all would work together.

"We are looking to strengthen our support base and gain the support of business through donations.

"We feel that if we work together we'll be able to provide more assistance to clients who are struggling financially."

The agencies - which include local churches - previously worked together as part of the Knox Emergency Relief Network, providing food vouchers and parcels to people in financial crisis.

The groups will now work during the holiday period as part of the Share the Joy Knox Christmas Appeal.

Zillah said there would be families on limited incomes who might need help over Christmas, with presents for children hard to afford.

Businesses throughout Knox are being asked to get on board and support the cause.

She said businesses could ask staff to donate non-perishable food, quality gifts for children, gift vouchers for teenagers or cash.

People could also join Share the Joy as volunteers. "We want this to be successful and hope the community can work together with us.'
