A 76-year-old Knoxfield man suffered serious spinal injury when he fell while pruning a tree last Sunday afternoon.
The man was working without safety equipment, and fell four metres off a ladder, landing on his back on an already pruned branch.
Intensive care paramedic Ashley Jackson said the man had no feeling below his waist, and had hit his head.
He was taken to the Alfred Hospital in a serious condition.
