POLICE and council officers are investigating the deaths of two cats that were attacked by a dog in Boronia.
Boronia police were called to Rosella Avenue about 5.40pm on January 16 in response to a call that a dog was wandering after killing two cats.
Police found the dog, which was subdued using pepper spray.
The owner of one of the cats that were killed said she felt sorry for the man who owned the dog.
"From what I've heard somebody let his dog out," the woman, who did not want her name published, said.
Her cat was a Persian named Priss.
The woman said she was sitting by her window when she saw two dogs.
"I thought I'd better go outside because Priss was out there. I didn't hear one sound and I found her [Priss] lying on the ground mauled to bits."
The woman said she used to talk to Priss "all day". "I do miss her terribly."
The woman hoped the incident would encourage people to watch their dogs.
"I'm not a vindictive person. I understand these things can happen."
Knox Council corporate development director Mark Dupe confirmed the incident, but according to the council, only one cat was involved.
"Dog owners should realise that animals are unpredictable and any dog is capable of attacking."
