Road grass angers

13 Apr, 2011 12:00 AM
UNTIDY median strips have upset Knox residents and Knox councillor Andrew Walter for long enough.

Cr Walter, angry on account of the messy, overgrown state of centre medians and edging around major VicRoads roads, is calling on the state government to clean up its act.

"Frankly, it's a joke and I've had enough," Cr Walter said. "I can see a bit of mowing has been going on in some parts but that's just throwing grass around all over the road."

The Friberg Ward councillor called for immediate action from the government and VicRoads to spruce up unsightly median strips.

He said they also posed health and safety risks for motorists and pedestrians. "I'm not impressed by even what has been done. Council is doing its bit and the state government needs to lift its act."

Cr Walter called for all concerned residents to keep the pressure on the government and VicRoads, which is responsible for maintaining the strips.

This is what happens when tea baggers convince governments to reduce taxes then lay-off people. There isn't anyone to do the routine maintenance such as cutting the grass.

Maybe we could get some multi-millionaires to share their gardeners since they benefited the most.

I wholeheartedly agree with this article. I have lived in the city of Knox for just over four years now and the state of the nature strips has frustrated me since I moved here. I work hard to maintain my house and I would love to see some hard work reflected in my local area too.

In response to Road Grass Angers originally posted on 13/4/2011. I can empathise with high emotions regarding the councils inability to maintain median strips in my local area. We do pay dearly for rates every year and would imagine this would be a basic minimal requiremt. I am also concerned for those poor council workers whom risk life and limb cutting these grasses. Surely artificial turf would better suit OH&S safety laws these days. In any case I would feel better for these poor souls and their families
