FIVE Knox football clubs will take part in a Knox Community Health Services initiative to raise awareness of violence against women.
Scoresby, Wantirna South, Knox, Boronia and Upper Ferntree Gully football clubs have urged residents to come to their games this weekend to support the first Knox Accord Day.
The event, supported by Knox Council, Victoria Police, Knox InfoLink, Eastern Community Legal Service and the Eastern Football League, seeks to encourage men to counter violence against women.
Players will run through a Knox Accord banner and wear white armbands to symbolise the need to end violence against women. There will be guest speakers at club lunches and opportunities for spectators to sign the Knox Accord pledge.
Knox Community Health Services chief executive Chris Potter wanted to see an end to the "shocking reality that one in five Victorian women are the victims of family violence in their homes".
"Family violence is a serious community problem. Everyone is part of the solution."
Matches are on Saturday at Scoresby Recreation Reserve (Scoresby v Wantirna South), Knox Gardens Reserve (Knox v Norwood) and Tormore Reserve (Boronia v Upper Ferntree Gully). Games start at 2.10pm.
