Uni students get rent scam alert

Uni students get rent scam alert

22 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM

With the university year about to get under way for many Knox students, the Tenants Union has issued a warning to be aware of online scammers and dodgy landlords.

Union policy worker Toby Archer said many students did not have any experience living independently and may fall prey to scams.

He said students should be wary of transferring large sums of money in the guise of bond payments via online or international transfer services before meeting a landlord or viewing a property.

Students seeking advice can contact the Tenants Union of Victoria or Consumer Affairs Victoria.
