KNOX Raiders will field teams in both the under-14 boys and girls national basketball club championships for the first time in three years.
It will be the fourth year in a row the boys' team has competed at the championships, with this year's event to be held in Canberra.
The girls, who will be coached by Peter Rooke, return to the championships after a two-year absence and will begin the tournament as one of the favourites thanks to strong Victorian Junior Basketball League form.
The girls' event will be held in Hobart.
"We're absolutely excited about the thought; we just can't wait for them to start," Rooke said.
"Playing and meeting the best players in Australia is going to be a great experience.
"Our expectations are to do the absolute best that we can and see where that takes us. I know work ethic wise, we're extremely good.
"Our greatest strength is our resolve to never give up. I know it's a cliche but our self-belief in each other and a never-give-up attitude will be the keys to our success." The boys will enter the week-long tournament as defending champions, having won the championship at the Dandenong Basketball Stadium last year.
Boys head coach Dale Crotty believes his young stars have the temperament to deal with the pressures of being the hunted.
"This year's group is a lot different to last year's group, so it was a great effort for the boys to qualify for the Australian club championships," he said.
"The boys have had to deal with added pressure and expectations due to the success of last year's under-14 team, and I believe they have dealt with it very well to this point.
"Jayden De Pace and Cameron Waterhouse experienced the nationals format last year, so Sean [Carroll] and I will be looking for them to provide guidance and leadership to the other players in the team over the course of the week."
Both teams will tip off their nationals campaign on Monday, September 27.
