IT was the Dandenong Rangers' second win of the season, but more importantly, it was win number one for new coach Dean Kinsman last Saturday night.
Languishing near the foot of the WNBL ladder with just one win from eight games, the Dandenong Rangers sensed an opportunity to turn their fortunes around when they hosted fellow struggler Perth on Saturday night.
To that end they didn't disappoint, coming away with a vital 82-71 win.
Both teams have suffered from a string of coincidences in recent times, including resignations by their coaches during the past week.
Replacing Dale Waters at the helm, Kinsman went to work knowing that an opportunity to play Perth was the perfect place to start the rebuilding of his team's season. Up by five points at the first break, the Rangers pushed clear to lead 39-27 at half time, before withstanding a late rally by the Lynx that saw them get within seven points.
No doubt keen to impress the new coach, the Rangers looked slick in offence, carried the ball with a sense of direction and executed well. The next test for the Rangers will be a ripper against Townsville Fire at Dandenong Basketball Stadium next Sunday.
