Tall Thunder recruit to bolster Raiders ranks

Tall Thunder recruit to bolster Raiders ranks

04 Jan, 2010 10:16 AM
KNOX Converse Stadium will welcome a new face in WNBL Logan Thunder player Cassie Smith for the 2010 SEABL Women's season.

The Knox Raiders will also see the return of two of their young players in Rachael Waterhouse and Danni Bone, who have come through the Knox Junior Raiders program.

They will compete for major minutes in the coming season after establishing themselves as legitimate threats to more senior players this past season.

Smith, 20, will join other current Logan Thunder teammates Emily Fryters and Sarah Graham when she suits up for the Raiders after playing a vital role in the Brisbane Lady Spartans Championship run this season.

After a knee injury during the 2008 season, Smith averaged 9.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game with the Lady Spartans during 2009

Currently, she is competing in her first full WNBL season, averaging close to two points and one rebound per game.

Head coach Heath Anderson believes Smith will fit in very well to his squad for 2010 and bring a new dynamic to the Raiders.

"Tall, big guards of Cassie's quality are hard to come by so when the opportunity arose we jumped at it. Cassie gives our group a new look. She can play the one through four on defence and the one through three on offence."
