Games hit by big wet

10 Mar, 2010 04:00 AM
WILD weather hampered the final day of Yarra Valley Cricket Association home and away action, with almost every game abandoned.

In the DJ Strachan Shield, Healesville made 9-222 with Nick Foster falling five runs short of a century. Foster was helped along by Darren Edwards, who scored 43 not out, while Warburton's Michael Walker snared 3-69.

Play ceased with Warburton at the crease on 0-3.

Hoddles Creek was making a great fist of its big chase of Seville's 7-357 at 4-171 when rain stopped play. Brenton Derix hit 77 and Seville's Craig Atkins took 2-39.

The main contributors to Seville's mammoth score were John Pignataro (118), Andrew Kay (62) and Garth Woodford (69no).

Mt Evelyn (6-206) had a good score in the making against top side Wandin when rain intervened. Top performers include Andrew Giblin (77), Mick Darvell (31) and Stephen Kogelman (31). For Wandin, Jason Kennedy took 3-55 and Lee Selkrig 2-32.

Yarra Junction was able to declare on 5-198 after solid batting by Daniel Lever (58) and Ed Buckley (51). Lever helped himself to 3-23 in his side's bowling innings.

Gruyere District put on 8-233 against Woori Yallock with Matt Tilney (53) and Aaron Violi (42) doing the bulk of the damage. Woori Yallock did not get a chance to bat.
