FERNTREE Gully District Cricket Association's under-16 side left the Jim Beitzel Shield competition a little disappointed after losing out in the semi-finals.
The statewide competition ended on Sunday with Ringwood District Cricket Association winning the shield.
The Ferntree Gully District under-16s beat several of the finalists, including the RDCA side, but lost out in the semi-final against North-West Metropolitan CA.
The Ferntree Gully District side was being bowled out for 59 on a difficult batting wicket. North-West was at 4-20 before it managed to pass the target on 4-61.
FTGDCA coach Adrian Brown said his side had paid a heavy price for some "undisciplined" batting in the semi-finals.
"You have got to be consistent in these carnivals," he said. "We had three good games and three poor games. In our first game we chased down 200, which is a good effort in a kids' game. I hope the boys will take some lessons from this carnival."
Luke McComb starred with the bat and the ball for Ferntree Gully District, making 137 (average 60) and wicketkeeping and snaring two wickets bowling spin. His twin brother Robbie McComb was also impressive making 120 at 40 and taking five wickets at 20.
All-rounder Andrew Campbell was another good performer with 100 at 20 and seven wickets at 18.
The McComb twins have also won selection for the FTGDCA's Bendigo Country Week side because of their play in the carnival. Jack Hamilton and Harrison Brown were also good contributors for the side.
The under-16 Keith Mackay Shield side lost out to West Gippsland CA in the quarter-finals.
The under-14 Russell Allen Shield side missed the finals while the under-14 Des Nolan Cup side made the quarter-finals before being eliminated. The under-12 Keith Mitchell Shield side made the semi-finals before being knocked out.
