Knoxfield driver takes road safety message over to Norfolk Island

03 Feb, 2010 03:00 AM

KNOXFIELD-BASED V8 Supercar racer Tony D'Alberto has returned from a whirlwind 48-hour visit to Norfolk Island eager to make sure his road safety ambassador role on the South Pacific island helps cut collisions and injuries.

"It's a beautiful island, but it can be a very daunting place to drive with steep roads, poor road surfaces and blind crests or corners a dangerous backdrop," D'Alberto said.

A rise in driving incidents on the island indicated the need for a road safety program, and D'Alberto was pleased to take a leading role when approached.

"During this visit we recorded some television and radio commercials, took loads of promotional photos and started speaking with residents.," D'Alberto said.

He will soon launch a similar road safety program in Victoria, where he hopes to spend time between racing commitments visiting schools and talking with students about their responsibilities when getting behind the wheel.

Schools wishing for D'Alberto to visit them should contact Centaur Racing on (03) 98017899.
