KNOX'S Annie Egan is proving her worth as an athlete, with several strong performances at a state level.
The Bayswater Bullets runner has had an outstanding 2007-08 season, being named the Knox Centre track and field best overall athlete and the Knox Centre cross country best overall athlete for the under-10 girls category.
this month, Egan put in a great performance at the Victorian Little Athletics State Championships in Warragul, winning a silver medal in the girls' under-10 1500 metres.
It was an excellent performance, considering she was competing with 85 other runners.
Egan's silver-medal effort saw her achieve a rare feat - winning medals across all four state championships in the little athletics calendar.
In March, the grade 5 Bayswater South Primary School pupil won a gold medal in the 400 metres and pentathlon events.
She also took out a gold medal for the 4x200m relay late last year.
Egan says she alternates between doing cross country in winter and athletics in summer.
However, it's cross country which she prefers, enjoying the challenge of running longer distances and up hills.
Her father, who has also been a runner, has provided the odd training tip for Egan.
Although she was previously a swimmer, she is now committed to running and hopes one day to represent Australia.
