SEVEN CFA units were needed last week to control a grass fire on EastLink near the Boronia Road exit.
Connect East spokesman Peter De Luca said the fire started about 200 metres before the Boronia Road exit on adjacent grass.
Theleft-hand lane was closed between Burwood Highway and High Street Road but there were only minor delays, he said.
A police spokesman said that nine times out of 10 roadside blazes were caused by cigarette butts but the cause of this outbreak had not been determined.
