THREE out of four teams in the finals isn't bad but Bayswater's senior side will be the odd team out heading into the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association finals which start this Saturday.
The Waters seniors lost to minor premiers Oakleigh at Bayswater Oval on Saturday and when other results went against them fell to seventh place, missing the finals by just two points.
But the Waters seconds, thirds and fourths all confirmed their places in the post-season and all aim to win their respective premierships.
Waters first XI captain-coach Sean Flynn said his side got a first hand example of why the Oaks were premiership favourites.
"We were disappointed with how we played and Oakleigh showed why it's the top team in competition," he said.
"They batted very well on a slow outfield so 212 was good score.
"Our young bowlers were very good at the end because we fought back well and took late wickets. Before that it looked like we would be chasing more than 212.
The Waters made a good start to their chase with Flynn (24) and Dean Connell (19) making 32 for the first wicket but once Connell was dismissed his side was unable to keep hold of their wickets and were bowled out for 100.
' Flynn said Connell, who was the second leading run scorer in the competition, teenage bowlers Tim Sugumar and Luke Turner and all-rounder Bryce Galvin all had stellar seasons for the Waters.
The club had a McGrath Foundation pink stumps day during the match hosting a luncheon to raise money for the charity with the whole day raising $4400.
"It was a huge effort to raise that amount," Flynn said.
"We had 140 people at the luncheon, so at least the day was a success off the field, pity we couldn't have that same success on it."
