Indian mynas: Help eradicate them

Knox Council is urging residents to consider planting local native shrubs to discourage Indian myna birds from flocking to the area. Mayor Karin Orpen said the birds were listed in the top 100 invasive species for Victoria because of their aggression and intrusive noise. Their nests can block water drains and they also carried 'bird mite' which could cause itching. Cr Orpen said residents could make it harder for the birds to find food by making sure scraps were not accessible, blocking holes in roofs and eaves to prevent them entering homes, and planting gardens densely with native shrubs.
