BASKETBALL fans could get their first chance to visit the new State Basketball Centre at Wantirna South this Saturday.
Knox Raiders officials were yesterday in final talks with project managers to find out whether they can host their South East Australian Basketball League men's and women's matches against Brisbane Spartans at the SBC on Saturday night.
The games would be the first on the new venue's show court, which is expected to fit about 3200 supporters and become a major venue for elite matches.
Raiders officials are expected to announce today whether they have permission to host the games at the SBC or whether they will be played at the team's current home, Knox Stadium in Boronia.
The Raiders were tight-lipped about the talks but were hopeful of getting the all-clear to host this week's match.
The SBC will officially be opened when the Australian national men's team, known as the Boomers, plays Greece on June 25 as part of the Boomers' pre-Olympic farewell series.
The venue will also host the match between the Australian women's team, the Opals, and Brazil on June 28. Tickets for both matches are still available.
The State Basketball Centre is in George Street and is part of the Eastern Recreational Precinct Project, sitting alongside the Knox Regional Soccer Centre.
