Knox health service talks up action on diabetes

KNOX Community Health Service will hold two seminars next week to celebrate National Diabetes Week.

Each seminar will have a different focus to help educate people who have the disease or know someone who does.

The first session on the morning of Wednesday, July 11 will cover aspects of type 2 diabetes management with a number of speakers and the second session in the afternoon will focus on type 1 diabetes.

At the second seminar, 25-year-old Emilie Berard will discuss how she's lived since being diagnosed with the disease when she was 18.

The eastern suburbs resident recently took part in the extreme event Tough Mudder, which she says was amazing despite some "ridiculous obstacles".

When Ms Berard was diagnosed with

diabetes she shied away from exercise because she was worried about how her body would handle it. However, she threw herself into

getting fit and set Tough Mudder as a challenge with her work-out group.
