Knox City looks to new leader to turn around fortunes

KNOX City will look for a change in fortunes under new boss David Stack.

City continued its losing form, going down 3-0 to Nunawading City at Knox Regional Soccer Centre in their FFV State League 3 south-east match on Saturday.

Stack will lead City for the rest of the season as the club fights to avoid relegation to the provisional leagues.

At the 14-minute mark Knox managed to get the ball back and into an attacking area and when the Nunawading keeper didn't clear a through ball properly it fell to Curran Ferns, whose shot was deflected by a defender for a corner.

From that corner the ball was easily cleared

by Nunawading and it countered swiftly

down the left and found Nememiah Verscharen, who headed the ball home to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Knox quickly went back on the attack after the restart and after some good team passing, Tom Szabo managed to control the ball and get in a sizzling shot, beating the keeper but not the post.

A corner kick swung into the goalmouth ended with Nunawading's Maxim Solovyen reacting quickest to put the ball in the back of the net for Nunawading to go 2-0 up.

Denis Vucinic for Knox had his team's best chance at about the 52nd minute only to see his shot go just high.

Szabo also had a reasonable chance with a header but could not find the back of the net.

Nunawading's Stefan Benados made no mistake with a free header and Nunawading was up by 3-0.

Knox City travels to face top team Springvale City on Saturday at 3pm.
