AN apologetic robber held up a Wantirna South convenience store with an axe early this morning.
The man entered the store on the corner of High Street Road and Cathies Lane about 1am and made threats towards the male staff member.
He demanded cash and cigarettes before pulling out an axe.
The staff member handed over a packet of cigarettes and a small amount of cash. The bandit apologised before fleeing towards Burwood Highway along Cathies Lane.
Police are appealing for any witnesses and are looking for a man with a goatee, about 180centimetres and of thin build.
He was wearing a black-and-cream coloured cap, and a black jacket with black hooded top.
