Humans and hybrids to star in Knox grand prix

THE wheels were rolling and engines warmed up at the official launch of the Knox HPV Grand Prix earlier this month.

The launch was held at Swinburne University and the race will be held at the Knox Civic Centre and Knox City shopping centre in late April next year.

The event will involve teams of eight competing in seven categories with two types of vehicles: human powered and hybrid.

There will be a six-hour endurance race on the Sunday, and people taking part in the competition are encouraged to camp at the venue on the Saturday night.

It will be the 10th grand prix, but the first one in Knox. It was held in Maroondah for the past nine years. Bridge Builders runs the event to help students who feel disengaged from the educational system re-engage, as well to help young people build new friendships and develop new skills and self-assurance.
