FGDCA: Cricketers itching to have a go

FERNTREE Gully District Cricket Association players hope this Saturday will see an "actual" start to the season.

Rain ruined the chance of anything more than a few overs on opening day on Saturday with some matches getting a few overs in and others off the field all together.

With no games completed in the first round of one-day matches, all fixtures in the top four grades of the competition will be played on a reserve date later in the season.

Matches in the other grades will be recorded as draws.

In the top grade, Norm Reeves Shield, teams will again play one-day matches, with promoted side Knox Gardens getting a chance to return to the top flight with a home clash against Ferntree Gully.

Eildon Park will also get a rematch against reigning premiers Upwey-Tecoma, this time at Eildon Park, while Belgrave will face a difficult battle with Upper Ferntree Gully and Knoxfield hosts Ferntree Gully Footballers at Carrington Park Reserve. Johnson Park plays The Basin at Chandler Park.

In De Coite Shield, Rowville faces Monbulk at Liberty Reserve, South Belgrave battles Lysterfield at Belgrave South Reserve and St John's Tecoma plays Mountain Gate at Talaskia Reserve.

All matches start at 12.45pm.
