Candidates show who they prefer

WITH just over a week until Knox Council voters head to the polls, candidates are making their preferences known.

Many prospective councillors have registered their how-to-vote cards, showing where their preferences will be distributed.

Not surprisingly, current Scott Ward councillor David Cooper has listed Cr Peter Cole last in preferences, and vice versa. Both placed Dwayne Lawless as their second preference and each other as third.

Mr Lawless has not lodged a how-to-vote card, and said he was still making up his mind about his preference distribution. He said he had spoken to Cr Cole about preferences, but while Cr Cooper had initiated contact with him, Mr Lawless admitted he had yet to follow it up.

Dobson Ward candidates David Mutch and Gabrielle Verstraete have preferenced each other ahead of former mayor Karin Orpen.

Several how-to-vote cards have been lodged on behalf of Ms Orpen, with both competitors listed second on different cards. Blair Darragh, a candidate for Friberg Ward, is listed as the second preference for both Tony Holland and sitting councillor Andrew Walter.

Mr Darragh preferenced Cr Walter second and Mr Holland third.
