International flights grounded in Melbourne

International flights have been grounded at Melbourne Airport after a security scare.

A Melbourne Airport spokeswoman said the minor security breach meant passengers who had entered the section of the international terminal where customs and baggage checks are completed prior to boarding had to again pass through security.

The evacuation of the international departure area had not been done because of a risk to passenger safety, she said.

"There was absolutely no risk to anyone," the spokeswoman said.

"We'll be doing everything we can to get those planes in the air as quickly as possible."

Further details on the security breach were not available.
